The Koala Kare Stainless Steel Horizontal Surface/Recessed Mounted Diaper Changing Station is designed to be either:

• Recess mounted into the wall using the included hardware. A framed-out rough wall opening of 21.5 inches wide x 36.75 inches high (with a minimum depth of 4 inches from finished surface of wall) is required for installation, making this unit best for new construction or remodeling. The unit is secured into the opening using ¼ inch x 3 inch wood screws through pre-drilled holes on the inner side walls of the unit into the framing of the wall opening.
• Surface Mount is designed to be installed directly on to an existing wall surface using the included hardware using 4 pre-drilled mounting holes on the back wall of the unit that are designed for wood screws into wood studs on 16 inch centers. For installation in wall that does not have wood studs 16 inch on center, metal studs, or concrete block, specialized fasteners or toggle fasteners may need to be obtained by the owner locally. Installation instructions (provided) address these different wall materials / scenarios.

Both mounting versions are equipped with a reinforced steel-on-steel hinge running the full length of the station and with 11-gauge steel mounting chassis, the KB310 stations meet all ASTM requirements for static load performance when properly installed. Although designed for no more than 50 pounds, in testing the station easily supported 300 pounds with minimal deflection of the “bed” from the horizontal position. A pneumatic cylinder provides for easy, slow, and controlled opening and closing of the bed. Both the pneumatic cylinder and metal hinge mechanism are fully concealed (regardless of bed position) to eliminate tampering and possible pinch hazard.

The Koala Kare Stainless Steel Horizontal Surface/Recessed Mounted Diaper Changing Station has a MICRO-BAN antimicrobial additive that is permanently embedded into the Grey Polypropylene plastic. It is easy to clean and resistant to odors and both fungal and bacteria growth with an exterior flange or trim that is crafted from an 18 gauge, type 304 satin (brushed) stainless steel that surrounds the recessed wall opening so keeping the Koala Kare Stainless Steel Horizontal Surface/Recessed Mounted Diaper Changing Station clean requires the most basic of cleaning supplies to keep the station looking its best for many years to come.
